An Ethiopian Jew’s Journey

November 20 | 3:00 pm

Tali Ysia’s journey began at just four years old, when she walked for two and a half months through the Sudanese desert with her family as part of Operation Moses, the historic effort to bring the Jews of Ethiopia, known as Beta Yisrael, to Israel. Descended from the ancient Israelite Tribe of Dan, the Beta Yisrael community lived in isolation from other Jews for millennia, preserving unique traditions and deep faith. Since making Aliyah in 1984, Tali has dedicated her life to leading impactful educational and social initiatives in Israel and around the world. In this presentation, she will share her remarkable personal story and introduce the SIGD holiday, an ancient celebration of the Beta Yisrael community that symbolizes the renewal of the covenant with God and the longing for Jerusalem and return to Israel.
